Welcome to the Literature Exam section on
For the exam, you will need to know how to answer two types of question. All of the resources on this section of the website are geared to helping you do that.
The questions will be either a character question, focusing on one of the characters and how the writer uses language to present them
OR a theme question, exploring how the writer has shaped our response to a major idea in the play.

The purpose of the opening act is to establish themes and characters. It needs to be discussed in relation to how the writer engages the reader and establishes the themes.Look out for techniques such as:
